The Arts Society Thames Estuary (TEDFAS) is a member of The Arts Society (TAS), formerly known as NADFAS, which incorporates the arts of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.   Our aim is to increase enjoyment and knowledge of our cultural heritage, and to stimulate interest in its preservation. To this end, we hold a series of monthly lectures, given by expert speakers on a wide range of Decorative and Fine Arts subjects.

Our society was founded in 1989 by Mrs. Barbara Askwith, who had belonged to other NADFAS groups, and was keen to establish one in South East Essex. The society quickly grew in size and two sessions were needed to accommodate all our members at lectures.

We currently have a large membership, but we are still able to welcome new members.

What an informative May lecture by Lucrezia Walker on  John Peter Russell, the Australian impressionist. It is amazing that his art is so much less well known than the French impressionists he worked with. If you were there, please give us feedback by clicking on the link below.

We have a visit to Greenwich to look forward to later this month,  and then June's lecture will be "The Extraordinary Life of Misia Sert" with speaker  Julian Halsby
